PSHCE

The PSHCE curriculum aims to ensure children develop:

  • confidence and sense of responsibility and make the most of their abilities
  • a healthy, safer lifestyle
  • good relationships and respecting the differences between people
  • prepare to play an active role as citizens

The programmes of study aims to develop essential skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team working and critical thinking in the context of learning.
PSHCE is classified under three core themes:

  • health and wellbeing
  • relationships
  • living in the wider world

Additional themes embedded include economic wellbeing and strands of careers education. Through PSHE children are taught interpersonal skills, how to stay safe and healthy, the importance of exercise and the risk involved in the use of harmful substances. The PSHCE curriculum helps tackle barriers to learning, raise children’s aspirations, and enhance the life chances of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.
