Science is the third core subjects alongside English and Mathematics and covers some specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. The curriculum is directed towards developing children’s interest, confidence, knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and facts, environmental awareness and strands of history of science.
The science framework is aimed at providing a firm foundation for children’s future learning.
In addition to developing scientific knowledge, our science curriculum allows children to develop the skill of ‘working scientifically’ by considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning investigative work and recording, analysing data and researching using secondary sources.
Children are taught and encouraged to use appropriate scientific language to discuss and explain their findings and thoughts to others, to relate scientific knowledge to everyday life and to use appropriate apparatus with the relevant techniques safely and confidently. Science study units are often presented either through a theme or topic.
